JEL Scholarship Fund Road Race

This year was an amazing year for the JEL Road Race. Our students at Conte were able to come together and raise money to go toward the scholarship fund. Jocelyn was a student and her father Mr. LeClair is also a teacher here at Conte. This year the community raised over seven thousand dollars.

This year the 7th and 8thgrade were able to raise over one hundred fifty dollars each to become a sponsor on the back of the shirts. We also had students who participated in the 5k or walked 1.5 miles. Scattered among many were also Conte teachers; Mrs. Neville, Mr. Holland, Mrs. Spooner, Ms. Spooner, Miss Holmes, Ms. Holmes, Mr. Holmes, Mr, Jacobbe and Mr. LeClair.

Peer Mediation

Selected 6th and 7th grade students are undergoing peer mediation training. This training will lead to the creation of a peer mediation group for the 2008-2009 school year. In the training students are learning to mediate problems among their peers and learning language to help deflate conflicts. The students are tapping into their own lives for inspiration and also role-playing to take on the role of mediator and disputant. The students' confidence is growing and by the end of this year, they will be offical trained mediators to work towards supporting a positive school climate.
